HorrorWeb Review of Hallowed Ground Novel by Texas Author Justin Fulkerson

Hallowed Ground by Justin Fulkerson

I am an avid horror novel fan, and this was the first book I’ve read by this author. Justin Fulkerson hails from Lubbock, TX and has a number of novels under his belt through the years. I have to say, this book exceeded all of my expectations. Although, from the start, it seems to be a typical zombie apocalypse story, it quickly becomes something much more dark and disturbing.

The book begins with a priest and his nuns during a zombie apocalypse. The group journey through a town battling flesh eating monsters, making their way to woods for safety. Each situation they come across had its own dark and sinister aspects, leaving me anxious to see what would happen next and unable to put this book down.  The story flows seamlessly through zombies, sex, religion and mental illness. From the onset, I was completely intrigued by the main character, whose depth of personal demons and secrets had me captivated. The shocking plot twist at the end was something straight out of a Stephen King novel.

My favorite part of this book is the author’s attention to detail, particularly his elaborate and horrific descriptions of the bloody/gory scenes. If you like dark imagery and disturbing twists, this is the right book for you. I highly recommended it!!
